Creating a Farm
To create a new farm, follow these steps:
- Click the "Account" link in the navigation
- Click the "Create New Farm" button
- Enter the farm name
- Click the "Create" button
After this, you will be taken to your new farm. From here, you can now set up your farm.
Opening the Farm Settings Page
To get to the farm settings page:
- Click the "Farm" link in the navigation
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page
- Click the "Settings" button
Farm settings are not the same as app settings - the "Settings" link in the navigation is for app settings.
Adding Paddocks
To learn more about paddocks, see the paddocks page.
To add a new paddock, follow these steps:
- On the farms settings page, scroll down to the "Paddocks" section
- Click the "Add Paddock" button
- Enter the paddock name/number
- Enter the area of the paddock
- Click the "Create" button
Adding Extra Mobs
To learn more about mobs, see the mobs page.
The mobs feature allows you to track more than one mob on your farm. If you only have one mob, you can skip this.
To add a new mob, follow these steps:
- On the farms settings page, scroll down to the "Mobs" section
- Click the "Add Mob" button
- Enter the mob name
- Select a colour for the mob
- Click the "Create" button
Removing Mobs
If you no longer want to see a specific mob when starting a new grazing, you should hide it. This situation can occur where you merge two mobs together.
To hide a mob, follow these steps:
- On the farms settings page, scroll down to the "Mobs" section
- Click the edit (pencil) button next to the mob you want to hide
- At the bottom of the dialog, turn on "Hidden"
- Click the "Update" button
This will mean that when you start a new grazing, you will no longer be able to select this mob, but any exiting grazings will not be affected (both in-progress and completed).
If you want to undo this change, check "Show hidden mobs" at the bottom of the "Mobs" section in the farm settings, click the edit button by the mob you want to un-hide, turn off "Hidden" and click the "Update" button.
Be careful when deleting mobs
If you want to simply hide the mob - do not delete it! This will delete all the past grazings of that mob. Only delete mobs if you are sure you want to delete all the grazings associated with that mob.
Adding Paddock Tags
To learn more about paddock tags, see the tags page.
To add a new paddock tag, follow these steps:
- On the farms settings page, scroll down to the "Paddock Tags" section
- Click the "Add Tag" button
- Enter the tag name
- Select a colour for the tag
- Click the "Create" button
Some examples of paddock tags we use and have seen from others are:
Tag Name | Usage |
---|---|
Calves | Used to track when calves are in a paddock but you don't want to track their grazing as a mob |
Fertilised | Used to track when a paddock has been fertilised |
Irrigator | Track when the irrigator has been in a paddock |
Maize | Notify people that maize is in this paddock and it cannot be used for grazing |
Needs Topping | Track when a paddock needs to be topped |
Needs Urea | Track when a paddock needs urea applied |
Adding Other People
To learn more about users and permissions, see the users and permissions page.
To add other people to your farm, follow these steps:
- On the farms settings page, scroll down to the "Permissions / Users" section
- Enter the email address of the person you want to add where it says "New User's Email"
- Click the "Add" button
If the person you are adding already has an account, they will be added to your farm immediately. If they do not have an account, they will be sent an email inviting them to create an account. Once they have created an account, they will be added to your farm.
You can track the status of invitations in the "Pending Invitations" section. When someone accepts an invitation, they will be moved to the "Permissions / Users" section.
Configuring Permissions
Next to each user in the "Permissions / Users" section, there is a dropdown that allows you to change the permissions of that user. The permissions are:
Permission | Description |
---|---|
Admin | Can do anything on the farm (including creating paddocks and mobs). Is the only permission that can delete the farm. |
Editor | Can create things like grazings, notes and farm walks but cannot manage the settings for the farm |
Viewer | Can only view the farm |
Extra Farm Options
Under the "Options" section, there are a few extra options you can set for your farm. These features are opt-in and are not required to use the app.
Pasture Cover
The switch Record pasture cover when starting and ending a grazing (also enables the pasture cover timeline)
allows you to track pasture cover when starting and ending a grazing as well as enabling the pasture cover timeline.
When enabled, you can set your ideal ranges to be displayed on the timeline.
